CRECHE on Sundays For many parents/carers with children under 3 who come to church, creche on a Sunday morning can provide an oasis from child caring. There is a crèche room at the back of Chryston Church.
Some may wish to keep their young children with them during the service. However, the crèche is somewhere for children to be cared for while parents or carers, can attend worship and take time for themselves, and God.
Creche is usually a child's first experience of church and the church family, and a place where they begin to make friends.
We have a bright refurbished room with a wide range of age-appropriate toys and books. It is lounge-like in design with a WC next door. For babies, there are baby mats and bouncers and a nappy changing table. We also have access to toddler cutlery and crockery and high chairs.
Crèche is run by a pool of experienced volunteers on a rota. Each has been through the child protection process (Protection of Vulnerable Groups checks).
The Care Commission adult-to-child ratio is followed, with a maximum of 3 children to 1 adult for under 2s, and 5 children to 1 adult for 2 to under 3s. The toys and equipment are cleaned regularly.
Each volunteer will ask parents:
child's name and age
whether they wear nappies or are toilet trained
whether we have permission to take their child to the toilet or change their nappy.
any allergies or other specific needs,
things which help their child to settle (e.g specific songs to sing or books to read),
if they have any food or drink with them,
where the parent/carer is sitting back in the service for if their child requires breastfed or in case their child becomes upset.
We would be glad to welcome you and your little ones to our creche.
