Engage is an opportunity to discover a bit more of the Bible and to bring things to God in prayer. We alternate the format of Engage  by gathering one week as a church family and the following week in smaller groups. Due to the present circumstances most of this will be done on line using zoom, WhatsApp etc. If you can use the opportunity to meet a friend in a garden or when restrictions lift make small groups smaller by meeting together in threes to pray. If you are in a small group already chat through with your leaders what works best.

On week one we gather for prayer on zoom at 7.30pm followed by live teaching on YouTube and Vimeo at 8pm that will be the launchpad for small groups to explore on week 2.

We start a new series that we are giving the title “At The Rivers Edge”. Its inspiration comes from the people of Israel being brought out of Egypt to the edge of the Jordan river and  the question was what next? Will they trust God and follow in obedience?

In the coming weeks we are going to be looking at what the church is and what it might look like once lockdown begins to ease. By looking through a series of passages the Bible will shape our thinking as we look at questions of identity, mission and purpose of the church and explore questions that these once in a life time months bring. We will take the opportunity to think on how we connect with our community, grow confident disciples, what leadership in church looks like, church culture particularly on how it affects those on the margins and much more. We will learn more from those involved in the Growing Young course but ultimately we are asking the question what does it mean to be the Bride of Christ. We want to reflect Biblically and engage as a church family so please do get connected on Wednesday evenings and in small groups. We will also organise some all together church zoom times as we engage in these big questions.

Kevin De Young in His book why I love the church writes "Church isn't boring because we're not showing enough film clips, or because we play organ instead of guitar. It's boring because we neuter it of its importance.”

At the Rivers Edge is intended to inspire us in the part each of us are to play as part of the church family. It also gives us an opportunity to strengthen that which we do we well and to be challenged as a church family on what we don’t do well and God is challenging us to to change.
